Gearing up for Construction!

Days into Construction: 53
Days to Estimated Completion Date: 99

After a bit of a hiatus, we're gearing up to start exterior demo and construction (as opposed to deconstruction) in about 10 days!

Almost all interior demo is complete. It's fun to look through studs to see (almost) how big our main living space will be (can't see the whole thing, as the back exterior wall will shift out another 12 feet!).

Here are a few pictures:

View to the left as you walk in the front door - straight back to what was the kitchen
Standing in existing living room, looking through to existing den and kitchen
Standing in existing breakfast area, soon to be the view from our master bedroom door -
this will be the width of our dining area!
Goodbye, 1950s pink tile! Hall bathroom demo almost done.
Goodbye, 1950s maroon tile!  Guest bathroom demo almost done.
BEAUTIFUL hardwood floors were under all that carpet!
Samples of stain options - we like the top one here.
At this point, we've discovered that the hardwoods don't go through where our dining area will be (only in the front where the living area will be). So we've decided to refinish the hardwoods in the "south (southeast) wing" (where the existing bedrooms are), and then float a manufactured floor through the living and dining areas (so that the floor is the same throughout the main living area).  We've also decided to keep the master closet and study at the same floor level as the rest of the house (rather than the steps down to the existing garage floor level). We've also eliminated the fireplace from the plans for now, as a cost-saving measure (much more expensive than we thought, with the extent of the fireproofing required). Otherwise, things are continuing forward as planned!

We're starting to get really excited!  Stay tuned for more details when we gear back up again - hopefully on Feb. 4th!
